FC Erzgebirge Aue have secured their place in the 3rd Football League. The Saxons won 1:0 (1:0) against FC Ingolstadt and can therefore no longer slip into one of the last four places with two match days to go. Relegation rivals Dortmund II and Stuttgart II will meet next week and thus take points away from each other.
Ingolstadt, who were already safe, got off to a much better start. Ex-Auer Pascal Testroet set up Deniz Zeitler (8th minute), who failed to beat FCE goalkeeper Martin Männel. Benjamin Kanuric's follow-up shot went over the crossbar. Aue relied on surprise attacks, which was enough to give them the lead. After an assist from Anthony Barylla, Ali Loune (38) scored with his shot from 16 meters.
Despite the deficit, Ingolstadt continued to have more of the play - but Aue had Männel. The captain saved a shot from Kanuric (55'). In the final phase, Aue dropped their passivity and substitute Pascal Fallmann (72) failed to beat FCI keeper Pelle Boevink.
