Second division promoted Dynamo Dresden have brought in reinforcements from first division promoted 1 FC Köln. Central defender Julian Pauli is moving from the Rhine to the Elbe on loan. Dynamo made the announcement ahead of this Sunday's match (1.30pm/Sky) against FC Schalke 04.
"We have repeatedly emphasized recently that we would like to strengthen our squad in certain areas. In Julian, we have been able to acquire a young player with development potential who has already proven his quality in pre-season at an ambitious club with an emotional environment," said Dynamo's sporting director Thomas Brendel.
The 1.90-metre-tall Pauli was born in London, but came to Fortuna Düsseldorf's youth soccer performance center via the International School Düsseldorf. He later moved to Borussia Dortmund and 1. FC Köln at junior level. At the Geißböcken, Pauli made the leap to the professionals via the U17 and U19 teams. He played 17 second division games there last season and was promoted to the Bundesliga with Cologne.
Contract extended before loan
"Thomas Stamm's bold and attacking style of play really appeals to me, which is why I saw the ideal development opportunities here," said Pauli, who made his debut for the Germany U20 national team in September 2024. Prior to the loan, Pauli extended his contract in Cologne early until June 30, 2028.
