Dynamo Dresden have extended the contract with midfielder Niklas Hauptmann ahead of schedule until June 30, 2028. The announcement was made by the third division club on Thursday. The 27-year-old's contract is valid for all three professional leagues. "We are very happy to have retained an absolute top performer in Niklas. Niklas is an important building block in our further planning and we want to be successful together in the long term," said sporting director Ralf Becker.

Hauptmann came through Dynamo's youth teams from 2008 and moved to 1. FC Köln in 2018. He returned to Dresden via Holstein Kiel in 2022. "It's no secret what a close connection I have to the sports community. That's why I'm happy to be part of the path we've taken and am convinced of the goals that the entire club is pursuing," Hauptmann said in the club's announcement.
