The winning streak of the Niners Chemnitz basketball team has come to an end. The club from Saxony lost the quarter-final of the BBL Cup at home to Ratiopharm Ulm by 78:87 (39:39) on Saturday and left the court as losers for the second time this season after 17 victories in all competitions. The protégés of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore had suffered their only defeat of the season to date in the German league opener on September 27, when they lost 85:90 at champions Ulm.
L.J. Figueroa (19), Juan Nunez, Georginho de Paula (17 apiece) and Trevion Williams (10) played the biggest part in the visitors' success. Kevin Yebo (23), DeAndre Lansdowne (16), Wesley van Beck (14) and Aher Uguak (10) scored the most points for Chemnitz.
The home side got off to a poor start, but seemed to have got to grips with its opponents after a 14:2 run from 17:22 (9:00) to 31:24 (15:00). However, Ulm managed to equalize by the break and produced an 11:0 run to make it 50:39 (24') at the start of the third quarter. Chemnitz was no longer able to recover from the visitors' spurt and was no closer than 47:52 in the 26th minute. The Saxons had to pay tribute this time to the great drain on their strength due to the triple burden (championship, cup and Fiba Europe Cup).
