Sandro Wagner is an emotional coach on the touchline. This has already earned him three yellow cards in the first seven games of the season. The ex-professional is now even contacting the DFB about it.

For his three yellow cards in the still young Bundesliga season, FC Augsburg coach Sandro Wagner has turned to the German Football Association (DFB). The 37-year-old seemed to be particularly annoyed by the recent caution in the 1-1 draw in Cologne. Referee Timo Gerach had shown the Swabian coach a yellow card for complaining after just over an hour of play. After three cautions in just seven games so far this season, Wagner is now just one away from a one-match ban.

"If you know me, then you know that I like to understand things in all their complexity. I couldn't do that there," he reported and revealed: "That's why I've already spoken to one or two people at the DFB on the phone and I'm smarter now." Wagner did not give any details of the discussions, but added once again, looking back on the caution in Cologne: "Everyone can judge for themselves whether it was a yellow card or not."

Augsburg still without captain Gouweleeuw against Leipzig

Augsburg, led by their emotional new coach on the touchline, will host second-placed RB Leipzig on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). Captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw will continue to miss the FCA due to knee problems, as Wagner announced.

The defender has repeatedly attempted a comeback in recent weeks, only to have to take a break again. "We have to make sure that he recovers fully and completely and only then does he return to full team training," said the coach. The Dutchman will not only be missing against Leipzig, but also in the following second round match of the DFB Cup against Bochum on Tuesday (20:45/Sky).

Black FCA streak

Augsburg have been without a win against Leipzig for 15 Bundesliga matches and even 17 competitive matches. When asked why that might be, Wagner replied: "I don't know because I haven't seen the last 15 games."
