FC Erzgebirge Aue defied the club's internal squabbles with the dismissal of sporting director Matthias Heidrich and achieved a respectable success in the relegation battle in the 3rd soccer league. In front of 18,508 spectators at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, coach Jens Härtel's side fought out a goalless draw at promotion candidates MSV Duisburg.
The hosts took control from the start, but were unable to create any dangerous opportunities. Aue became more courageous as the first half progressed and were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after a foul on Marvin Stefaniak (34'). At the other end, Duisburg's Connor Noß missed the lead with a header. Louis Lord steered a Florian Krüger shot onto the post in stoppage time.
The second half was unable to match the level of play in the first half. Duisburg were superior and Aue, as in the first half, became more attack-minded as the half progressed. However, it was not enough for either team to score because Lord once again wasted a great chance in stoppage time (90.+4).
