Jens Härtel's days as coach of FC Erzgebirge Aue could be numbered. Despite being outnumbered for a long time, the Saxons failed to get the home win they needed against FC Ingolstadt and had to settle for a 2:2 (0:1) draw. Although the third-division club played with eleven against ten for more than an hour due to a sending-off against FCI professional Julian Kügel, Erzgebirge squandered the win in stoppage time.
Aue turned the game around after Ingolstadt's Fredrik Carlsen went behind (31st minute) and Kügel was red-carded for a rough foul (33rd minute): Marvin Stefaniak (49th) and Jonah Fabisch (79th) scored. In the first minute of stoppage time, however, Ingolstadt's Jonas Scholz shocked the hosts with his dusted-off goal to make the final score 2-2.
Clear pre-match victory message to Härtel
So that could have been it for the Erzgebirge coach. Härtel had received a clear message from the club's board to score fully against their neighbors in the basement of the 3rd division. "Only points count against Ingolstadt on Sunday, it's currently all about results in a difficult phase," emphasized president Thomas Schlesinger after a board meeting last Tuesday.
