Third-division soccer team FC Erzgebirge Aue won a historic match at FC Glenavon. 65 years after the Northern Irish side failed to face the then FC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt in the European Cup of Nations for political reasons, Aue coach Jens Härtel's team won 2-0 (2-0). Erik Weinhauer scored in the 16th and 43rd minutes before the break at Lurgan's Mourneview Park. Aue had already won the first leg 5-0 at home last year.
On Sunday, the third-division club will continue their training camp in Bad Gögging, Bavaria. The team from the Erzgebirge will stay on the Danube until Friday and play a test match at Bayern regional league side SpVgg Bayreuth on the return journey on Friday (3.30pm).
