Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) considers an apology from Labour Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD) for her controversial comments at the Jusos national congress to be appropriate. "That is not possible. We are so dependent on sticking together in this country. An apology would be appropriate," he told the German Press Agency. Learning from history also means preventing a conflict between employers and employees, left and conservative, from arising in the first place. "Everyone has their responsibility."
Bas had reported on her appearance at the Employers' Day at the Jusos national congress at the end of November and said that it had become "particularly clear to her (...) who we actually have to fight against together". She had been asked there how much social security Germany still wanted to afford.
"There they were, I'll be frank, the gentlemen - yes, they were mostly men - sitting in their comfortable armchairs, one or the other in a tailored suit, and the rejection was clearly noticeable," Bas reported. She had thought of the people who were dependent on solidarity, who had often worked physically hard and poorly paid all their lives. "And this moment showed me once again where the lines really run in this country."
