The cold season and falling temperatures cause problems for the homeless in particular. However, there are several offers of help in the major Saxon cities.
In Dresden, for example, the night cafés of the parishes are opening again. They offer homeless people shelter and warmth during the winter until the end of March. There are also numerous other services available for homeless people in Dresden. According to the city, there are a total of 506 warm and safe places to sleep. Advice and support is provided by four contact and advice centers.
Additional winter program in Leipzig
Leipzig is also preparing for the cold season. The frosty nights can be life-threatening for homeless people. The city has therefore launched a winter program with additional offers. "A total of 298 places are available daily for single men and women in the various facilities. This capacity can be increased at short notice if necessary," the city announced.
In addition to several emergency shelters, there are also three daytime shelters in Leipzig. In addition, there is a daily help bus, a medical bus and several street work teams in various parts of the city.
Help if needed in Chemnitz
In Chemnitz, no additional services will be set up in winter. However, when asked, the city pointed out that all services are provided continuously and in line with demand. "If the overnight accommodation is fully occupied, additional offers can be made available at short notice." In addition to an emergency shelter with 92 places, there are three day shelters, a help bus and three advice centers.
