Global politics and inflation are causing concern among residents of Lusatia

People in Lusatia are less satisfied with their personal lives. This is according to the latest Lusatia Monitor. The report shows that the percentage of respondents who were satisfied dropped to 66 percent this year. Last year, 79 percent had stated that they were satisfied with their personal lives and gave ratings of one to three.

The Lausitz Monitor has been surveying public opinion in the lignite region since 2020.

Furthermore, the results show that fewer and fewer people in Lusatia see an improvement in their living conditions: While 41 percent of respondents in 2021 were still convinced that their personal situation had improved, the figure has now dropped to just 23 percent.

This is weighing on the minds of Lusatians

According to the survey, the global political situation is the primary factor influencing this sentiment. Seventy-three percent of respondents perceived this as a major burden on their own situation. In the previous year, that figure was 38 percent. But rising prices are also clouding the outlook for respondents: 82 percent of them rated this as very or somewhat negative for their own future.

Respondents cited the economy and the labor market as the region’s greatest challenges. The main focus was on creating and preserving jobs (29 percent).

For the latest Lausitz Monitor, a total of 1,024 people aged 16 and older from the districts of Bautzen, Görlitz, Dahme-Spreewald, Elbe-Elster, Oberspreewald-Lausitz, and Spree-Neiße, as well as from Cottbus. The analysis was conducted by MAS Gesellschaft in Leipzig and the firm Prozesspsychologen GmbH in Lusatia.
