Work instead of school is the motto for thousands of pupils in Saxony next Tuesday. They will be raising money for social projects in Saxony and around the world.

This year, pupils in Saxony are once again swapping their school desk for a job for a good cause. According to the organizers of the "genialsozial" campaign day, half of the proceeds from the one-day work assignment will go to international projects selected by a jury of young people.

This time, support will be provided for the construction of a preschool in Uganda with boarding places for children from remote villages, a drinking water project for indigenous communities in Peru and legal protection for the indigenous population in the Philippines against environmental destruction.

The other half of the donations will remain in Saxony. The money will go to social projects such as youth clubs or advice centers and to educational work on global justice, sustainability and development policy issues.

An estimated 34,000 young people from 268 schools are expected to take part in the project next Tuesday. They are expected to earn more than 800,000 euros with their work in a wide variety of places, from craft businesses to supermarkets to social institutions or in the cultural sector.
