With the start of the cold season, Dresden is once again offering shelter for homeless people. According to the city, there are a total of 506 warm and safe places to sleep - including 400 beds in 10 transitional accommodation centers, 56 places in 28 guaranteed apartments and 50 emergency sleeping places. "Nobody has to be ashamed to accept this help," said Social Mayor Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann.
These municipal accommodations require a referral from the social welfare office. Outside of office hours, those affected can use the emergency reception of the transitional accommodation in the Hechtviertel district.
On November 1, seven Dresden parishes will also open their doors to the ecumenical night cafés - with food, warmth and, if desired, overnight accommodation. Four contact and advice centers in Pieschen, Striesen, Löbtau and Plauen also offer advice and support.
There are currently 424 people registered as homeless in Dresden. Kaufmann appeals to all citizens to be vigilant, especially during the cold season, and to call 112 if they are in acute distress.
