Even if there is no sign of snow yet, the road maintenance departments in the Ore Mountains are preparing for the coming winter season. Depending on the weather, snow fences will be erected along the roads at the end of October, according to the Erzgebirgskreis district office. The fences will extend over a length of around 20 kilometers.
In addition, the road maintenance salt depots will be filled with around 16,000 tons of road salt by the end of October. During the winter season, up to 56 vehicles are reportedly deployed to clear the roads of snow and ice. The road maintenance depots in the Ore Mountains maintain a road network of around 1,230 kilometers every year.
