Fruitful alliance in Saxony? A possible coalition of CDU, SPD and the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance has already lost its potential name: the "blackberry coalition". The reason: as there is no country in the world that uses the colors black (for the CDU), red (for the SPD) and purple (for the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance) together in its national flag, nature has now been found.
The blackberry is to serve as the namesake because the fruit displays the party colors of the potential coalition partners at different stages of ripeness. The term "blackberry coalition" is said to have been first used by party researcher Karl-Rudolf Korte in an essay with theses on the state elections in the east.
In the state elections on Sunday, the CDU/CSU won 31.9 percent of the vote in Saxony, just ahead of the AfD (30.6 percent). As CDU Minister President Michael Kretschmer categorically rules out cooperation with the AfD and the Left Party, the CDU/CSU can only form an alliance with the BSW (11.8%) and the SPD (7.3%) or with the BSW and the Greens (5.1%).
