According to forecasts, Leipzig’s population will continue to grow in the coming years—though the pace is slowing. This is evident from the latest population projection, as announced by the city. The results serve as an important basis for future planning, such as in the areas of transportation, energy and water supply, social housing, and schools and daycare centers. According to the data, three scenarios were modeled: In the most dynamic scenario, the city will surpass the 700,000-resident mark in 2045, the report stated. That would represent an 11 percent increase. Assuming a seven percent increase, the population will rise to 677,700 residents by 2045. Leipzig’s population growth is continuing, though at a slower pace than during the years of strongest growth from 2010 to 2020, according to the city. According to statistics, 633,592 people lived in the trade fair city last year—meaning Leipzig remains Saxony’s largest city, ahead of the state capital, Dresden (571,510 residents).
