Thuringia's Minister President Bodo Ramelow is sceptical about a possible application to the Federal Constitutional Court to ban the AfD. "What I would want is not a priority," the Left Party politician told RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND). "The decisive factor is what provable and court-proof documents can be presented." Politicians are also "always in danger of appearing to be competitors" in such a debate.
Ramelow also referred to a ruling by the Higher Administrative Court. In February, the court revoked the withdrawal of a weapons permit for an AfD member on the grounds that it could be proven that the AfD regional association held positions that were contrary to the constitution. However, the withdrawal of the weapons permit by the authorities was not sufficiently justified. "The ruling already shows the difficulties of a party ban."
