Many people in Saxony are currently mobilizing against cuts in the state's double budget for 2025 and 2026. Time is of the essence. The budget is due to be passed in June.

Theatre and orchestra employees want to protest against planned cuts to culture in front of the state parliament next Wednesday. Under the motto "Without us it will be dark", they will express their protest "not with whistling concerts, but with artistic means", announced the Plauen-Zwickau Theatre as the organizer of the rally.

On this day, the state parliament will convene in plenary session. The double budget for 2025 and 2026 is to be adopted in June. The CDU-SPD minority coalition needs at least ten votes from the opposition.

A few weeks ago, Minister of State Barbara Klepsch (CDU) announced that the government's draft budget envisages cuts to cultural spending and therefore also to subsidies in almost all areas.

This overlooks the fact that the funds from 2024 will no longer be sufficient this year and even more so in 2026 due to pay rises. They would have to be counter-financed if there is not to be a reduction in services or even the closure of divisions and insolvencies.
