Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit Hoyerswerda on November 24. He will be paying tribute to the Kulturfabrik Hoyerswerda association as a meeting place for social interaction, the Office of the Federal President announced. As the city's socio-cultural center, the Kulturfabrik is a supporting pillar for civic engagement, participation and the promotion of democracy, whose roots lie in alternative GDR youth culture work, it said. The association is an example of initiatives that encourage people to actively shape their environment and take responsibility for their community.
Steinmeier wants to get to know various opportunities for exchange and participation during his visit, it was said. "He will talk to politically engaged young people, get to know the association's community repair workshop and discuss volunteering and the future prospects of the people in Hoyerswerda." Afterwards, the Federal President will take part in a public event organized by Deutschlandradio's "Denkfabrik". The theme of the series is "Doing instead of complaining! What happens when everyone pitches in...".
