According to the Saxon SPD leader, there is a problem with the cooperation with the BSW. Despite criticism, he gives the minority government a positive report card.

About a year after the failure of a coalition between the CDU, SPD and BSW, Saxony's SPD party and parliamentary group leader Henning Homann has criticized the BSW as unreliable. "We have noticed that the agreements with the BSW have not worked for all of the major future issues in this state," said the Saxon SPD party and parliamentary group leader. He cited the budget and public broadcasting as examples.

Homann expressed the suspicion that the party was trying to divert attention from internal conflicts by attacking the coalition. "This is a transparent and now repetitive pattern at BSW, for which I have relatively little understanding."

Need for improvement in cooperation in the state parliament

The criticism from the Greens and the Left regarding cooperation with the government has been heard, said Homann. For the smaller parliamentary groups in particular, the extra work caused by the consultation mechanism for agreement between the government and the opposition represents a major challenge. There is room for improvement on all sides.

"In order to work even better with parliament in the future, we will be holding talks at top level with the constructive opposition parties in the coming weeks," Homann announced. This does not include the AfD, which is not participating in the consultation mechanism.

Homann takes positive stock of the minority government

After almost a year of minority government, Homann took stock of the situation as a whole, even if it was a "very challenging story". "The coalition of CDU and SPD is working. It is capable of acting," he said. They had managed to get a majority for the budget and thus ensured planning security for the economy and local authorities.

Homann also referred to the successes of the SPD, which had been able to push through its priorities, for example with investments in future-oriented sectors such as the microchip and hydrogen industries and a focus on children, young people and families. With the Saxony Fund, which will enable investments of 5 billion euros over the next 12 years, the SPD has fulfilled a key election promise.
