In light of the clear shift to the right in the European and local elections, the Refugee Council in Saxony wants to launch a fundraising campaign on World Refugee Day (June 20). The aim of the "100 plus x" campaign is to gain at least 100 new permanent donors by the state elections on September 1, the association announced in Dresden on Friday. The Saxon Refugee Council has been campaigning for the rights of refugees since 1991. It wants to continue doing this in the future - "far away from populist propaganda against refugees".
Several celebrities are to be involved in the campaign to ensure long-term support for the association. "Regular donations help us to be financially independent of state funding in the long term," said the association. Due to the shift to the right, municipal support for integration projects is becoming increasingly unrealistic in many places and the organization is also concerned about the upcoming state elections. "We anticipate a slash in the funding of integration work," it continued. If masses of projects die after the elections, people seeking protection will find it even more difficult to arrive.
