Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer has called for further measures to stop immigration to Germany. Commenting on the discussion about stationary border controls, the CDU politician said on Tuesday on news radio "MDR Aktuell": "The whole discussion is hypocritical if you do not talk at the beginning about the number of people who can get protection in Germany - a discussion about an upper limit. So a number that is orientation for us as Germany." The number, he said, must be based on what Germany is willing and able to provide. "And if we find that the number is getting too large, then we are also prepared to take tougher measures."

Kretschmer described the current situation: "We have no housing, we have no German and integration courses." People would have to wait more than a year for the courses. He also pointed out that in some school classes and kindergartens, the percentage of migrants is 50 to 60 percent. "That is perfectly clear that it does not go so."

To better fight against smugglers, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser also announced the preparation of border controls. The SPD politician spoke on Tuesday morning on Deutschlandfunk of another instrument. "We are preparing stationary border controls with for the time being. It's about additional controls," Faeser said. "And we have to see what that then brings."
