The Left Party is drawing attention to rising rents in the areas surrounding Dresden and Leipzig as well. They cited municipalities such as Schkeuditz, Rackwitz, Radeburg, and Heidenau as examples. According to the Left Party faction in the state parliament, people in these areas have to spend too large a portion of their income on housing costs.
The Left Party Calls for Expansion of the Rent Control Law
“Excessively high rents are placing a burden on many people not only in Dresden and Leipzig, but also in the surrounding counties. An ever-larger portion of Saxony’s housing market must be considered strained. Consequently, we must also expand social housing construction and protective measures such as the rent cap,” explained State Representative Juliane Nagel.
