Over-70s were the least likely to vote AfD

In the European elections, Saxons in the 70+ age group were the least likely to vote for the AfD. 23 percent voted for the party - a good 8 percentage points less than in Saxony as a whole (31.8 percent), according to data from the State Statistical Office. The proportion of votes was highest among 45 to 60-year-olds (38 percent).

As in previous elections, the CDU was particularly popular among the over-70s with 31.8 percent (Saxony: 21.8 percent). The Christian Democrats performed worst among the youngest age group of 16 to 25-year-olds (8.7 percent) and were thus behind the Left Party (9.8 percent), which achieved its best result among the youngest.

Greens with biggest losses among 16 to 25-year-olds

The Greens recorded the biggest losses in this group compared to 2019, losing 16 percentage points (2024: 7 percent, Saxony-wide: 5.9 percent). They achieved their best result among 25-35-year-olds (11.1%).

In its first European election, the BSW achieved the highest approval rating among the oldest voters (17.1%, Saxony-wide: 12.6%). The SPD also performed best in this group (11.1 percent, Saxony-wide: 6.9 percent).

The high proportion of votes for other parties among younger voters is striking. This was 13.7 percent across Saxony, compared to 28.5 percent among the under-25s and 27.5 percent in the under-35 age group.
