New apple variety as a gift for the Prime Minister

Saxon apple trees are presented as gifts at the Minister Presidents' Conference in Leipzig. Saxony's head of government is also focusing on growth outside the state.

Saxony's head of government Michael Kretschmer (CDU) has decided to give his colleagues a fruity gift as host of the Minister Presidents' Conference in Leipzig. As the State Chancellery announced, 15 apple trees of the "Pia41" variety will be handed over on Friday. This is a newly bred variety from the Julius Kühn Institute in Dresden-Pillnitz. Kretschmer said that he hoped the apple trees would thrive in the other federal states and bear lots of fruit. Fruit varieties have been bred in Dresden-Pillnitz for more than 100 years.
