More people have been deported from Saxony in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year. So far, there have been 277 deportations to the countries of origin, the Saxony State Directorate announced on Wednesday. In the same period last year, there were 195.

The authorities rejected asylum applications for 257 of the people deported this year, 83 of whom were criminals, according to the state directorate. The main countries of destination for the returns were Georgia, North Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey and Serbia.

The remaining 20 people who were deported were reportedly required to leave the country for other reasons unrelated to asylum. This includes people whose residence permit has expired and who were not granted a tolerated stay, as can be read on the migration officer's website.

According to the state directorate, 198 people left the country voluntarily in the first quarter. According to the authority, this included both state-sponsored and self-financed departures.
