French President Macron will make up for his state visit to Germany in May, with stops in Berlin, Dresden and Münster.

French President Emmanuel Macron will make up for his state visit to Germany at the end of May, which was canceled at short notice last year. This was announced by the Office of the Federal President in Berlin on Thursday. Macron and his wife Brigitte will arrive in Berlin on 26 May and will be welcomed with military honors by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender in front of Bellevue Palace. Both will then visit the democracy festival around the Chancellery and the Bundestag to mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law. In the evening, Steinmeier will host a state banquet.

Further stops will reportedly be Dresden and Münster on May 27 and 28. According to dpa information, Macron intends to give a speech on Europe in Dresden, which had already been planned a year ago.

Macron had actually wanted to come to Germany at the beginning of July last year. The planned stops were Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg, Berlin and Dresden. It would have been the first state visit by a French president to Germany in 23 years. However, Macron canceled it at short notice due to the riots in France following the death of a teenager during a police checkpoint. Both sides assured at the time that the visit would be rescheduled as soon as possible.
