Left-wing extremist Lina E. released early

The convicted left-wing extremist Lina E. will be released from prison early. According to the Federal Court of Justice (BGH), it has rejected an appeal by the Federal Public Prosecutor General against the suspension of her remaining sentence on probation. The 3rd Criminal Senate of the Federal Supreme Court thus confirmed a corresponding decision by the Dresden Higher Regional Court.

According to an expert opinion, Lina E. has a "favorable prognosis" to prove herself in freedom, the Federal Supreme Court announced. "This applies in particular because she has credibly renounced her former violent tendencies, has conducted herself properly in prison and has a viable future perspective."

Convicted as a member of a militant group

In May 2023, the Dresden Higher Regional Court (OLG) found Lina E., who comes from Kassel, guilty of dangerous bodily harm and membership of a criminal organization, among other things. The judges considered it proven that the student was involved in several attacks, some of them life-threatening, on actual and alleged supporters of the right-wing scene in Saxony and Thuringia between 2018 and 2020. The court sentenced Lina E. to five years and three months in prison.

The young woman has now served two thirds of her sentence. In March, the Higher Regional Court decided to suspend the remainder on probation. This is now legally binding.
