The three Saxon chambers of industry and commerce (IHKs) want to set up a working group for the security and defense industry. "The aim is to network companies and institutions in the industry, pool expertise, develop strategies to strengthen the industry in Saxony and represent political interests," announced the state working group of the CCIs.
There will be regular specialist events and joint projects. The working group will also develop position papers. Guests from politics, associations and research will enrich the dialog.
Kretschmer wants to expand the defense industry
The strengthening of the security and defense industry was one of the central topics at a joint meeting between the Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the state government on Thursday evening, according to a press release. In September, Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) spoke out in favor of expanding the defense industry in Saxony and announced networking meetings between major players in the industry and suppliers. Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter (SPD) recently dedicated a theme day to the industry with several company visits.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the security and defense industry in Saxony is predominantly made up of suppliers with a total of more than 2,000 employees in around 80 companies. They produce electronics, sensors, optics and precision technology, IT security and software as well as vehicle technology including special vehicles.
