Dressed in green uniforms and with rifles and bayonets mounted, historical re-enactors recreated everyday military life around 1860 at Königstein Fortress. Between casemates, defensive walls and a view of the Elbe valley, members of the Military Historical Representation Association of Saxony patrolled the plateau as the "4th Company of the 1st Royal Saxon Jäger Battalion", lined up for roll call and practised with their weapons.
The group from Radebeul (Meissen district) says it attaches great importance to historically accurate uniforms and equipment. Between the exercises, visitors were able to talk to the performers, have their movements explained or use the backdrop for souvenir photos.
Women and children in historical clothing were also out and about, reminding visitors that the mountain fortress was not only a garrison in the 19th century, but also a temporary home for many families.
