The non-party mayor of Grimma, Matthias Berger, is now officially leading the list of the Free Voters (FW) in Saxony for the state elections on September 1. According to a press release, the 56-year-old was unanimously elected as the top candidate by the state election assembly on Saturday. The high level of approval for him was a clear sign of support and trust in Berger's leadership skills and political vision, said state chairman Thomas Weidinger.
Berger swore those present to a tough election campaign. "We can and want to shape Saxony's future positively." The people are ready for this, but a "clear signal for change" is needed - and that is what the Free Voters stand for. Both Berger and Weidinger, who is in second place on the state list, are confident that the Free Voters will make it into the state parliament in September, also in view of the broad support at local level.
In 2019, they missed out with 3.4 percent of the second votes. In their program for 2024, the Free Voters have focused on rural areas and municipal finances. Other priorities include education, family, the economy and internal security.
