The CDU chairman Friedrich Merz has sharply criticized the approval of the CDU parliamentary group in the Dresden city council for an AfD proposal to introduce a payment card for asylum seekers. "The decision is correct in substance, but unacceptable in procedure," said Merz in Berlin on Friday. "That was a mistake. And we will discuss everything else with those affected." The CDU had always said that it would not agree to AfD motions in any parliament. Like the CDU, the FDP and Free Voters parliamentary groups also voted in favor of the AfD motion at the meeting on Thursday evening.
