According to calculations, 1,000 daycare places will no longer be needed in Chemnitz in the coming years. The city council is responding to this with a resolution.

In Chemnitz, seven nurseries will be closed by 2028 due to the continuing decline in the birth rate. The city council has decided to cut a further 253 nursery places, the city administration announced. According to calculations, around 1,000 daycare places will be unoccupied in Chemnitz over the next two years.

Among others, the municipal daycare centers Neue Straße 2, Albert-Schweitzer-Straße 71 and Harthweg 2 will close by summer 2028 at the latest. For the daycare centers at Alfred-Neubert-Straße 55/57 and Robert-Siewert-Straße 68/70, a move to other facilities operated by independent providers is reportedly being examined.

Parents will be offered childcare places for their children close to their homes or workplaces, according to the statement. If there is a greater need for childcare places again, it will be possible to react flexibly.
