Dresden is experiencing growing interest abroad as a tourist destination. On Thursday, Dresden Marketing GmbH (DMG) cited a mention of the city as one of 52 recommended "Places to Travel" worldwide in the New York Times as well as a recommendation from the largest British travel association, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA). "The recommendation for Dresden in the New York Times article comes from a journalist with whom DMG has been in contact since 2014. The almost completed reconstruction of the historic old town after the destruction of Dresden in 1945 is highlighted as remarkable, as is this year's Caspar David Friedrich Festival, which Dresden is also celebrating in style," it said.

"We are delighted with this success. We have been very active in the US market for many years, meeting tour operators and journalists locally at trade fairs, roadshows and presentations and inviting them to visit us in Dresden Elbland," explained DMG Managing Director Corinne Miseer.

The British Travel Association had selected Saxony, and Dresden and Leipzig in particular, as one of ten "Destinations to Watch" worldwide - alongside destinations such as Mauritius, Vietnam and Albania. "The accolade from ABTA will help us to build on our very good pre-corona level in the UK," emphasized Miseer. The United Kingdom has been one of Dresden's top foreign markets for years. In addition to the landscape, the British also appreciate the top-class cultural offer with stages and museums.
