Plans to sell land on Saxony's highest peak, including the nationally renowned Fichtelberghaus, are facing headwinds in Oberwiesenthal (Erzgebirgskreis). In a resolution, the town council appealed to the district to at least keep important areas on the plateau in public hands, as the town informed. This included the traffic areas and the area between the mountain station of the suspension railroad, the Fichtelberghaus and the Friedensglocke.
The plateau on the Fichtelberg, including the hotel and restaurant there, is a popular excursion destination. Until now, the property has belonged to the Erzgebirgskreis district, which has leased the Fichtelberghaus. However, the district launched a bidding process in spring to sell the property and the surrounding areas.
The background to this is a high need for modernization. When asked on Thursday, the authority's press office was unable to provide any information on the current status of the process.
