CDU and SPD in Saxony have signed their coalition agreement for a minority government in the Free State, making it official. This coalition agreement excludes nothing, but makes many things possible, said CDU state leader and Minister President Michael Kretschmer. "It is also an invitation to people who are not part of this coalition, but who want to get involved in our country."
According to Kretschmer, many people are looking to Saxony these days. They are approaching their work with humility, modesty and great joy. He described the 110-strong coalition agreement as a good foundation for the joint work.
SPD leader Henning Homann called the coalition agreement an "invitation to the democratic parliamentary groups in the state parliament". They will have to be willing to compromise like others. The CDU and SPD are ten votes short of their own majority in the state parliament. They want to secure majorities with a consultation mechanism that involves other parliamentary groups in legislative projects at an early stage. The election of the Prime Minister is scheduled for Wednesday.
