The CDU in the state parliaments of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt wants to support young families buying their first house or apartment when they move in themselves. The ownership rate in the eastern German states is still relatively low, said Saxony's CDU parliamentary group leader Christian Hartmann after a joint closed meeting in Stolberg (Mansfeld-Südharz district). Young families should therefore be specifically supported by a reduction in ancillary costs, such as land transfer tax.
According to Hartmann, tax law changes are necessary for implementation in the federal states, which should be initiated at federal level. The aim is to strengthen long-term housing and living prospects in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, according to the resolution paper.
Highway expansion instead of right to sue associations
In addition, the state parliamentary groups are calling for the abolition of the special right to sue for nature and environmental protection associations in order to implement infrastructure projects more quickly. Some construction projects now take decades, said Saxony-Anhalt CDU parliamentary group leader Guido Heuer.
Furthermore, the expansion of freeways in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt is to be driven forward. "We are committed to expanding the A36 to the Polish border and the A4 to six lanes," said the resolution.
Heuer and Hartmann want to solve problems
Heuer also acknowledged the change at the head of government in Saxony-Anhalt. "Sven Schulze is our man for the future," he said of the CDU state leader in Saxony-Anhalt, who is due to take over from Minister President Reiner Haseloff (CDU) at the end of January. His parliamentary group is united behind Schulze, said Heuer. Success in the first round of voting would be an important signal, he said. Haseloff has been Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt since 2011 and was only elected in the second round of voting in 2021.
With regard to the AfD's high poll ratings, Hartmann and Heuer emphasized that politicians must solve existing problems. Heuer described a scenario with an absolute majority for the AfD after the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in September as a disaster. "We want to remain the strongest force in this state," he said. Heuer advocates a continuation of the alliance between the CDU, SPD and FDP. However, if there is no majority for a centrist government, a minority government should not be taboo, said Heuer.
