Berlin's Olympic planners hold talks following setbacks

According to a media report, Berlin's Olympic planners are discussing how to proceed with the capital city's bid following recent setbacks. This is reported by the "Bild" newspaper. It aligns with information from the German Press Agency. According to the report, the possibility of withdrawing the bid three days before the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) decides on the national candidate cannot be ruled out.

Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU), Sports Senator Iris Spranger (SPD), and Berlin’s Olympic Commissioner Kaweh Niroomand are participating in the meeting. However, according to dpa information, the date had been set some time ago. The meeting is also expected to address the schedule for the coming days, leading up to the decision on Saturday in Baden-Baden (1:45 p.m./ARD).

With its “Berlin+” concept, the city is partnering with Brandenburg, Saxony, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to bid to host the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040, or 2044. However, Berlin is now considered a clear underdog behind Munich and Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr. Most recently, Berlin’s election winner, Elif Eralp (The Left), once again spoke out clearly against the bid. The DOSB evaluators have also given the other candidates a better evaluation.
