The streetcar network in Leipzig has been undergoing modernization for a long time. Now the federal and state governments are contributing a large sum.

The expansion of the streetcar network in Leipzig is being funded by the federal and state governments with around 30 million euros. Saxony's Transport Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) handed over the corresponding funding decisions to Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB). The money is to be invested in track and stop construction on lines 4, 7, 11 and 15. The majority of the funding comes from the federal government; the Free State of Saxony is providing a co-financing share.
