In the last Bundestag election, AfD leader Tino Chrupalla clearly won his constituency of Görlitz. He has now been re-elected as a direct candidate.

The AfD district association in Görlitz has chosen federal chairman Tino Chrupalla as its direct candidate for the Bundestag elections. Chrupalla received 98.6 percent of the vote in his home district in eastern Saxony, with only one vote against him. "I would like to thank the members for their trust. In the last general election, I achieved our party's best first vote result with 35.8%. I want to improve on this result in the upcoming election," Chrupalla told the German Press Agency.

The 49-year-old added that, as the top candidate, he wanted to make the state association of Saxony the frontrunner. Chrupalla is also aiming for first place on the AfD state list for Saxony, which is to be drawn up on November 30.

The next federal election is expected to take place on February 23 following the end of the traffic light system. In the previous election, the AfD won 24.6 percent of the popular vote in Saxony, leaving the CDU far behind with 17.2 percent.
