The outdoor pool season in Saxony is slowly getting underway. But those who want to swim outdoors still have to grit their teeth.

The weather is still not outstandingly nice, but Saxony's outdoor pools are starting the season anyway. The Leipzig sports pools are inviting visitors to take their first dip in the Schreberbad on Monday. In Dresden, the Georg-Arnhold-Bad and the Kombibad Prohlis as well as two bathing spots will officially open on Wednesday. However, if you want to swim outdoors, you have to be able to withstand the cold. The water is still not particularly warm.

"The outdoor pools are not heated. That means it's only as warm as it is outside - it's still a bit chilly," said Katja Gläß, spokeswoman for Sportbäder Leipzig. "But we're ready to go. Every year in May, the weather still has to pick up speed." There are also numerous regular guests who are not put off by the cooler temperatures. Some even come in wetsuits to swim in the outdoor pool.

Mixed weather prospects for the time being

The outdoor pools in Saxony are gradually opening. Some had already used the warm summery first weekend in May to start the season. Of the five outdoor pools in Leipzig, two will officially open to visitors on Saturday, with the other three following a week later.

In addition, there are numerous lakes in Saxony where you can swim. More than 30 of them are classified as EU bathing waters. Their water quality is monitored by the health authorities during the bathing season from May 15 to September 15.

The weather forecasts for this week are mixed. The German Weather Service (DWD) is predicting highs of around 15 degrees. It is also expected to rain again and again.
