For winter sports fans in Saxony, the snowfall and low temperatures are good news: The winter weather is ensuring good conditions in the ski resorts. Most slopes and trails are open to skiers.
Fichtelberg ski area mostly open
The ski area on the Fichtelberg in Oberwiesenthal is mostly open, according to the operator. In the event of wind or thunderstorms, there may be restrictions on the cable car or chairlift, but the drag lifts and magic carpet will still be in operation. The cross-country ski trails in Oberwiesenthal are also open, with one exception.
Further snowfall is forecast for the weekend. The temperature will rise to a maximum of minus three degrees, reaching up to minus 17 degrees at night.
Good conditions also in Eibenstock and Altenberg
The situation is similar in the ski arena in Eibenstock in the Erzgebirgskreis. The ski lifts are in operation and the toboggan run is also open. Cross-country skiers can expect mostly good to very good conditions on the nearby Erzgebirge/Vogtland ridge trail. According to the operators, the snow depth ranges from ten centimetres in Tannenbergsthal and Schneckenstein to 30 centimetres in Johanngeorgenstadt.
Skiers also get their money's worth in Altenberg. The slopes and lifts as well as three of the six cross-country ski trails are open. According to the town, the snow cover measures 35 centimetres.
