Spooky figures, glowing pumpkins, and plenty of thrills: Around Halloween, Saxony hosts numerous events that are sure to give you the chills—for kids and adults alike.

Whether it’s a family celebration, a spooky garden, or a spine-chilling party night: There are plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween in the Free State. Even for people who just want a little thrill and don’t want to be scared out of their wits. Here’s a selection.

Haunted Garden at Villa San Remo

When darkness falls over Dresden on October 31, 2026, Villa San Remo at the funicular’s upper station will once again transform into a realm of terror. For the 14th time, the Haunted Garden will open its gates and whisk visitors away into a dark world. For young fans of thrills, there’s a toned-down version from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., before the full horror takes over until 8:00 p.m. All net proceeds will go to a good cause.

Spooky Fun on the Chemnitz Tram

On October 31, Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG invites you to the “Good Ghosts Party” at the Garagen Campus in Chemnitz. From 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Halloween fans of all ages can enjoy a free spooky festival featuring performers, games, puzzles, arts-and-crafts activities, and activity booths. Food and drinks will also be available. The highlight: rides on a ghost tram.

Halloween horror in “Gruselhausen”

In Oskarshausen in Freital near Dresden, Halloween horror returns with “Gruselhausen.” This family event features dance, light, and fire shows, spooky encounters, and a haunted maze. The amusement park’s rides will also be open after dark. New this year are specially designated zones for more timid visitors, where no scare actors will be waiting.

Wildly Spooky

At the Leipzig Zoo, young Halloween fans will get their fill on October 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to bread on a stick by the campfire, craft activities, and animal-themed face painting, the program includes a scavenger hunt. Children up to and including age 16 get free admission when in costume.

Riesa Zoo also invites visitors to get spooked on October 30 and 31. Amid light installations and spooky backdrops, there are plenty of activities. The brave can venture into the Haunted Tower, where live scare actors provide thrills. The Halloween spectacle runs on both days from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
