The first Asterix park outside France is being built near Leipzig. The new owner, Compagnie des Alpes, announced in Paris that the Belantis theme park there is to be gradually transformed into an Asterix park. The official name change is planned for 2030/31. In terms of the number of Asterix comics sold, Germany is the second-largest market directly behind France and also the second-largest European market for amusement parks, according to the statement.
The redesign of Belantis is being carried out in consultation with the publishing house Albert René, which publishes the Asterix comics, Compagnie des Alpes announced. A first area dedicated to the dog Idéfix will open in spring 2026. Due to the advantages of Belantis' location and the company's expertise, the park is expected to have the potential to welcome up to 900,000 visitors per year in the long term. Compagnie des Alpes took over Belantis in the spring.
Favorable location, great potential
The amusement park in the south of Leipzig was opened in 2003 and offers various theme worlds and attractions on more than 27 hectares. With its location close to the highway and its proximity to Berlin and Dresden, the location is considered attractive. Belantis claims to receive several hundred thousand visitors every year.
In addition to twelve amusement parks, the Compagnie des Alpes also operates ten ski resorts in the French Alps and is active in other leisure and tourism sectors.
