The Vogtland region is currently being hit by more minor earthquakes. On early Wednesday evening, one such quake with a magnitude of 2.7 was measured in the eastern town of Klingenthal, Saxony's State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology announced on Thursday.

Since March 18, several hundred quakes have been measured in the region. Six of them were stronger than 1.5 and could therefore potentially be felt, according to the experts. The quake on Wednesday evening was the strongest.

The Vogtland and northwest Bohemia region is known for so-called swarm earthquakes. This means that many earthquakes occur in close succession in the same area. Damage is not usually to be feared.

The Klingenthal town council was not aware of any damage as a result of the previous evening's quake when asked on Thursday. According to the state office, it was felt within an estimated radius of 40 to 70 kilometers.
