They are small, fluffy and are also called goslings: In 2024, most goslings came from Saxony. However, the state also recorded a decline.

Most goslings have emerged from hatcheries in Saxony this year. A total of 390,200 goslings hatched in the state, according to the State Statistical Office. Compared to 2023, the number fell by seven percent. Specifically, there were 29,500 fewer goslings.

Nevertheless, most goslings nationwide come from Saxony. Four of the seven poultry hatcheries in the state are dedicated to reproducing geese. Every year on St. Martin's Day (11 November), the peak season for goose slaughter begins with the so-called St. Martin's geese.
