Thanks to many volunteers, more than 700,000 new trees have been planted in Saxony since 2022. A good 5,000 people have taken part in the Forest Championship campaign so far, the initiators announced on Sunday. The initiative of the Forest for Saxony Foundation, the image campaign of the Free State of Saxony "So geht sächsisch" and the TeamSportSachsen association aims to plant four million trees by 2027. The aim is to create climate-stable mixed forests on forest areas that have become bare due to storms, drought and pests. According to the information provided, tree species such as oak, maple, lime, beech and fir will be planted. Further planting campaigns are planned for this month - in Freiberg, Großröhrsdorf, Zwickau and Augustusburg, it said.
