The federal police have seized seven dachshund puppies at the German-Czech border in Breitenau. Their owner - a 66-year-old man from Romania - was unable to produce the required European pet passports, according to the Berggießhübel Federal Police Inspectorate. He only had Romanian animal passports with him, which showed that the animals were less than twelve weeks old.
In addition, the required period of time between rabies vaccination and transportation had not been observed, it said. The animals had been lying unsecured on the back seat.
The puppies were handed over to a vet. The owner had to pay a security deposit of 660 euros. He will get the animals back when he presents the necessary documents. A misdemeanor charge was filed against the man for a violation of the Animal Health Act.
