Happy end in Dresden: The fire department has freed four ducklings from a rainwater downpipe. They were stuck at a depth of around one meter on Saturday afternoon and were easy to hear and see when the rescuers arrived, according to the fire department.
The chicks could not be rescued from the inner courtyard of the building in Elsasser Straße (Johannstadt), so the emergency services had to access the sewage pipe via the underground garage.
They opened the pipe and freed the chicks, which they then reunited with their waiting mother. "As the immediate surroundings seemed unsuitable for the duck family, the emergency services accompanied the animals to the Elbe meadow," wrote the fire department. They carried the chicks to the bank in a transport box, with the mother waddling vigilantly behind. The family eventually swam away safely.
