A previously unknown, strong-smelling liquid has triggered a fire department operation at a secondary school in Bautzen. According to the city administration, the substance was discovered in the boys' toilet on the second floor of the Gesundbrunnen secondary school on Wednesday morning. The toilet and adjoining rooms were immediately cordoned off.

At present, eight people are being treated for respiratory irritation, including pupils, teachers and school staff. Specialists from the fire department were called in to investigate the liquid in order to detect hazardous substances. No further details on the cause or nature of the substance were initially available.
